434/613 – The silver and gold on the idols

Yaakov, Béla Orbán

"…do not covet the silver and gold that covers them so much that you take it for yourself and thus become ensnared by it…" (Deuteronomy 7:25)

Gold is the symbol of glory and holiness, silver is the one of redemption and salvation.

According to this law, anything connected with these functioning of the idol must be destroyed and annihilated.

Not just the idol itself but everything that is connected to it, all our false memories, all our false adorations remained from our idolatrous past, all our "good memories" that remind alien gods.

We also have to erase all memories that where a kind of "redemption" for us from bad or even unbearable situations!

Indeed many sweet memories do remain inside of us which remind us our "agreeable" sins or those sins which are in relation with the functioning of alien spirits.

A beautiful night of love even if it was fornication, a prize on gambling, a good deal carried out with the aid of some blackmailing, etc.

But such are all our false charismatic experiences too, or all those very "good old times" spent in a religious and dead environment when we were serving alien gods.

The onions and cucumbers of Egypt…which memory and desire can easily bring us back to the slavery of our ancient Egypt.

"Because it was so good and so beautiful..."

For a better understanding of this law we have to know what gold symbolizes.

- the sign of the High Priest

- the power of the king

- the symbol of the Almighty (Job 22:24)

- the praise of God

All this is expressing a relation based on faith and faithfulness between men and God.

Thus gold does only belong to Him!

To our Lord and God…
