6/613 – They shall eat the flesh of the Lamb
Yaakov, Béla Orbán
"And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire"
This law seems to be in contradiction with the one of the Exodus…
They had to leave the country in hurry while waiting for the meat of the lamb becoming roasted, moreover to become completely roasted, since it was forbidden to eat it, neither cooked nor half raw.
What was the reason of that?
- In Egypt, the lamb was the object of adoration such as other animals.
The People leaving the country did not just secede from their oppressors, but also killed and ate their sacred animal.
- In Egypt, the People (Jews) had only very rarely the occasion to eat some meat.
This night, the consumption of the meat was the testimony of God's promises which fulfillment was to come. This action was the testimony of the wealth, the welfare of God and that He will heighten the wishes of His believers, the fact that He will allow them to enjoy meat as well…
God thus asked for a new proof of their faith:
- To say grace for the Exodus even before it happened
- they had to testify the providence of God and His blessings while still being on the ground of the exile, in front of the oppressors.
